Active in Japan since 1953, our Company opened its first office in 1957 in Tokyo. Our partnerships with Japanese companies include oil and gas exploration & production, natural gas supply, manufacturing of chemical products and sales of solar panels and high-tech lubricants.
Partnering abroad in Exploration & Production
We have been partnered with Japanese companies all over the world (UAE, Oman, Australia, USA, Mozambique, Italy, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan etc.) to develop and operate Oil and Gas exploration and production licenses and Gas liquefaction plants.
TotalEnergies and Inpex have notably teamed up to develop the Ichthys gas and condensate field, located off the shores of northwestern Australia, which started production in 2018.
Stable supply of Liquefied Natural Gas
We market Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Japan's top gas and electric power utilities, through our interests in LNG plants worldwide. Our affiliate TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd. also directly sells LNG, sourced from its global portfolio of LNG supply.
In addition to LNG, we sell crude oil to Japanese refiners, as well as naphtha (a distillation product), fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate (a type of light oil).
Renewable Energies Business Development
Solar Power Generation
We are actively involved in photovoltaic solar power generation business in Japan. We started commercial operations of the 27 MWp Nanao solar power plant in Ishikawa prefecture in March 2017, the 25 MWp Miyako solar power plant in Iwate prefecture in May 2019, the 52MWp Osato solar power plant in Miyagi prefecture in October 2021, and the 51 MWp Tsu Haze solar power plant in Mie prefecture in February 2023.
TotalEnergies continues to develop business in the Japanese solar market.
Onsite PPA
ENEOS and TotalEnergies established a joint venture in 2022 to develop and operate onsite PPA businesses. Headquartered in Singapore, the venture supports oroporate solar power self-consumption initiatives across Asia, with plans to develop 2GW of generation capacity over the next five years.
ENEOS possesses one of Japan's largest renewable energy generation capacities and operates self-consumption support services domestically. Furthermore, under its 2040 Group Long-Term Vision, it positions not only the expansion of electricity businesses centered on renewable energy but also next-generation energy supply and regional services utilizing distributed power sources as growth businesses. It is committed to creating energy services leveraging its own resources.

A wide range of Lubricants
Our affiliate TotalEnergies Lubricants Japan Co. Ltd. offers lubricants to the Japanese automotive market, both to consumers and leading carmakers. We also market auto racing products, motorcycle oils, industrial oils and special fuels for industrial applications.
TotalEnergies business unit Lubmarine partners with a top Japanese refiner to supply marine lubricants to ships calling into Japanese ports and to Japanese ships in ports all over the world.
Fuel for Aviation
TotalEnergies Aviation, our aviation fuel affiliate, supplies jet fuels to leading Japanese passenger and cargo airlines at several major airports, including Paris Charles de Gaulle in France. We also supply the fuels customers with fuel at Japanese airports (spot sales and charters) through a long-standing partnership with Japanese refiners.
Innovative Chemicals
Our specialty chemicals affiliates also operate in Japan. Hutchinson, a world leader in the design and manufacturing of rubber, thermoplastic elastomers, and polymer-based solutions, has an office in Tokyo to work closely with Japanese automakers and secure product qualifications.
The joint venture Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical, created with the Korean company Hanwha, has also a branch office in Tokyo and distributes petrochemical products in Japan.
Cray Valley, in TotalEnergies' Polymer division, a world leader in specialty hydrocarbon resins, contributes to the technological development of diverse industries including tires, electronics, adhesives, and more.
