TotalEnergies Starts Up its Third Solar Power Plant in Japan

Paris/Tokyo, 19th October 2021 – TotalEnergies has started up commercial operation of a 52-megawatt (MW) solar power plant located in Osato, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Completed a few weeks ahead of time, the plant provides enough clean and reliable electricity to serve nearly 15,600 households.

The plant is owned 45 % by TotalEnergies Renewables, with our partners Tohoku Electric (45%) and Softbank Energy Corp. (10%).

“This project is the result of a successful cooperation with SoftBank Energy and Tohoku. We are proud to have reached commercial operation ahead of schedule for our 3rd solar power plant in Japan. said Julien Pouget, Senior Vice-President Renewables at TotalEnergies. The success of the Osato project is fully in line with our approach as a global multi energy company contributing to the energy transition in Japan. We are actively pursuing further developments in renewables in the country where we have been present for 60 years.”

The commercial operation of Osato Solar Power Plant follows Nanao Power Plant (27 MW, 2017) and Miyako Solar Park (25 MW, 2019) start-ups. TotalEnergies' cumulative capacity in the country exceeds 100 MWp in operation and 50 MWp under construction.

TotalEnergies, renewables and electricity
